 New ISO9001 Standard - ISO9001:2000 Farchild's management announced the successful outcome of their recent audit to the new ISO 9001 standard. ITS Intertek Services conducted a thorough 1 1/2 day audit of Fairchild's facilities and Lead Auditor Jim Anderson announced at the closing meeting his recommendation that Fairchild Auto-Mated Parts, Inc. be certified to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. |

 Moving Up - On October 11, 2003 company officers Norman F. Thompson and Jonathan "Jake" Thompson met to discuss the need for an orderly plan of succession of the company's management.
Jointly, the two men agreed that President Norman F. Thompson would move into the position of Chairman of the Board and retain his position as company Treasurer.
Executive Vice President Jake Thompson would then become Fairchild's new President , the fifth person to occupy this position in the company's 64 year history.
Both men acknowledged the importance of sending a strong and clear signal to customers, suppliers and competitors alike that Fairchild continues to be a vital and responsive supplier of precision machined components to domestic markets. |

 Lean Manufacturing - Fairchild recently completed a three-day training session in lean manufacturing practices. Two teams were formed to conduct value-stream mapping of the quotation/order entry procedures used in the office and analyze the methods and routing used in the manufacture of complex, multi-operation components.
After two days of intensive research and discussion, the teams then made presentations of their findings and conclusions to upper management. They made many recommendations for ways to improve the speed and accuracy of our quotations and to accelerate the flow of complex parts, such as those shown at left, through the shop. Some of these ideas have already been implemented, with very positive results! The company looks forward to further implementation of their ideas and to future mapping of other important processes within our organization. |
